A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per chevron enhanced nebuly Azure and Buff, a horses head erased Sable. Attached below the shield a Red scroll inscribed IRON EAGLE SUPPORT in Gold.
Buff (gold) and scarlet are the colors traditionally associated with Support units. The chevron denotes support. It is nebuly, a heraldic symbol for clouds, recalling the units association with Aviation. The horses head refers to the units call sign, Workhorse. Black signifies strength and stability and simulates iron, highlighting the units motto. Scarlet denotes courage. Blue recalls again the units association with Aviation.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 10 May 1995.
